SAML Response (IdP -> SP)

About

This example contains several SAML Responses examples.

What is a SAML Response?

A SAML Response (in any category) is always sent by the Identity Provider to the Service Provider. The one and the only purpose is to identify the status of the authentication process. If the user succeeds, then it will contain the Assertion with the NameID / attributes of that user.

And here are eight different examples of SAML Response:

  1. An unsigned SAML Response with an unsigned Assertion
  2. An unsigned SAML Response with a signed Assertion
  3. An unsigned SAML Response with an encrypted Assertion
  4. An unsigned SAML Response with an encrypted, and signed Assertion
  5. A signed SAML Response with an unsigned Assertion
  6. A signed SAML Response with a signed Assertion
  7. A signed SAML Response with an encrypted Assertion
  8. A signed SAML Response with an encrypted, and signed Assertion
